The 411 on VARDT
About this site…
This site is designed as an online resource for HCPS teachers. The directions and corresponding videos will assist mathematics teachers in using this diagnostic test system as a vital part of their instructional decision making.
VARDT Overview…
The Virginia Algebra Readiness Diagnostic Test is an online testing system designed to help teachers assess their students’ specific strengths and weaknesses in math. Once a teacher administers the CAT test to students, teachers and tutors will have the information needed to create individualized learning plans as well as track student progress throughout the year. Students are allowed to take unlimited CAT and strand diagnostic assessments this school year.
Getting started…
Middle school teachers MUST use Safari as the browser for accessing the VARDT site. Currently Firefox is NOT supported by the VARDT web site. High school teachers should use Internet Explorer.
Step 1-Test Delivery (click the link on the right sidebar for specific directions and corresponding videos)
- Teachers log in to the VARDT site and create a new test session.
- Students launch the Secure Browser, enter their name and birthday, and then enter the Test Session number given to them by the teacher.
- At the same time as students are launching the Secure Browser, entering the Test Session number and awaiting approval, the teacher must also be logged to the VARDT site to give approval to those students.
- Students will be automatically assigned the grade level CAT assessment when they log into a test session.
- Please encourage your students to do their best on the CAT assessment. While designed to be administered in one sitting, teachers may decide to give the 30 question CAT in 2 separate sessions if this better matches student needs.
- Please note the following important points:
- While in the Secure Browser, students do not have a Quit or Resume Test Later button. Simply closing the lid does NOT quit the testing environment in the Secure Browser.
- If a student closes the lid and then reopens it at a later time, he/she will continue to have access to the test in the Secure Browser.
- Unless the Test Status shows Completed by a student’s name, you must have your students restart their computers in order to quit the test.
