Scores ending in 99–is that a good thing?

CAT scores report

A score ending in 99 on any of the 5 strand scores (the ones that makeup a student’s total score on the CAT test) indicates a pattern of understanding could not be made based on the student’s answers. Usually this means a student is guessing.

In order to gain a better understanding of the student’s strengths and weaknesses, you should assign strand tests for the student in that category

Suppose a 6th grade student scores 1699 in Number and Number Sense, which appears exceptional on the teacher report, yet scores low on all other strands. The teacher should assign strand tests in Number and Number Sense to determine what specific skills and concepts to remediate.

How do my students access the strand tests I have assigned?

Before a student can access the strand tests you have assigned to them, you must create a new test session under Test Delivery. It’s the same procedure used to created the test session to administer the CAT pretests. After you create a new test session, give the students the test session number. The students will launch the secure browser and log in using their name and birth date. Upon login, students will see a list of tests, which will include any strand tests you have assigned as well as the CAT test. Make sure they know the name of the strand test you want them to access. Just as you did for the CAT test, you will need to be logged in to the VARDT site ready to approve students for testing.
