When faced with a problem most people think there is only one correct solution when often there are many. It’s a matter of finding the best solution and having a process to guide us through solving the problem.

* “In this stage it is important to avoid reaching for a solution too quickly; be creative here and put yourself in the case. Try living with various alternatives that you are thinking about; what would be the impact on you and on others. Be sure to think about the costs and benefits of each alternative.”

1. Brainstorming all potential solutions – (this can be done in many different ways)

2. Compare each solution to the problem and ask yourself the following:

  • Will it solve all aspects of the problem?
  • Is it doable?
    • Do I have resources/skills that you need?
    • Can I get the resources/skills that I don’t have if I need them
  • Will it solve the problem in an appropriate time frame?
  • Will it cause more problems?

3.Decide on the best solution. *http://web.cba.neu.edu/~ewertheim/introd/cases.htm#4
