Awards and Recognition

At various times throughout the year, Staff Development will issue requests for nominees for awards and recognition. This information is sent to both the Staff Development Planner and the building principal. Work with your principal to publicize and coordinate the process at your school for nominating candidates. Examples of awards include Gilman Teacher of the Year, New Teacher of the Year, Instructional Leader of the Year, and The Christie Award.

The following awards packets will be distributed to school principals and staff development planners in the middle of January and will be posted here for your convenience.  The deadline for submission of applications for all award programs is no later than 4:00 pm on March 1, 2012. Submission checklists are included to help organize the nomination packets.

1.  Gilman Teacher of the Year:   Each school will select one exemplary teacher for the Gilman Teacher of the Year Award. All nominees will be recognized at the Gilman Teacher of the Year Ceremony on May 9, 2012, where the School Board will present an award to each teacher.

2.  First-Year Teacher of the Year: Each school with an eligible teacher may nominate one candidate. Please do not nominate more than one new teacher per school.  These nominees will also be recognized at the Gilman Teacher of the Year Ceremony on May 9, 2012.

3.  Instructional Leader of the Year: Any HCPS employee may nominate a deserving individual for the Instructional Leader of the Year Award.  An Instructional Leader will be recognized in each of the following three categories:  Principal, Assistant Principal, and Central Office representative from the Division of Instruction.  These winners will be recognized during the opening activities in August.  This information is being distributed through Staff Development Planners.

4.  The Christie Award: This award recognizes an outstanding exceptional education teacher.  Please review the nomination information.  The winner will be recognized at the Gilman Teacher of the Year ceremony on May 9, 2012.
