Concept Mapping

Posted by gwmarshall On April - 22 - 2010

Concept mapping can help students organize thoughts and works extremely well for visual learners. There are numerous tools available to students for concept mapping on the computer, such as Inspiration, myWebSpiration.com, OmniGraffle, and more!

Students in Mrs. Sharpe’s English 6 class use Inspiration to identify literary elements in stories.

Targeting the SOLs

Posted by gwmarshall On April - 22 - 2010

Miss Mosier created a group for US I teachers across the county in SchoolSpace. Teachers share lesson materials through this group. Miss Mosier showed teachers how to publish quizzes by SOL for their students. Students have to get a 100% on each quiz as part of SOL review. Teachers get valuable data from the quizzes and learn how to use SchoolSpace even better!

Fairy Tale Abridgements

Posted by jamaddux On April - 21 - 2010

The students in Mr. Cross’ 8th grade English class spent some time studying abridgements. (Specifically- The Princess Bride)  After finishing their study, they were given the task of taking one of the Grimm, Perault, or Anderson  fairy tales and abridging it.  In groups, they wrote, directed, filmed, edited, and starred in their own “abridged” versions of the fairy tales.  Students used iMovie to create their movies.  Here is an example from a group that abridged “Little Red Riding Hood”
