Students in life science with Mrs. Richardson, Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Stone demonstrated their knowledge of animal and plant cell organelles by creating computer animations. The project required students to create a mock ‘cell city’ where cell functions were conveyed by describing parts of a city (i.e. the Nucleus is like city hall because city hall controls city functions, just like the nucleus controls cell functions).
Students used AppleWorks paint to make digital images by drawing with their computer mouse. Students quickly developed empathy for digital graphic designers when they realized how challenging it is to simply draw with a mouse! Then students animated the images by using iMovie. The images were narrated by students as well.
