Narrative Podcast

Posted by sbmayo On November - 23 - 2009

Mrs. Thompson’s 6th grade class used Garageband to create podcasts to share their writing assignments on their favorite holiday.  Students worked on expression, enunciation, speed of reading, and volume while reading their work. When students discovered their work would be shared with a broader audience, they were self motivated to make further revisions to improve the quality of their work. To listen to Mrs. Thompson’s students work visit The Spoken Word.

Native American Settlers Project

Posted by kwgrootegoed On November - 23 - 2009

The First Settlers Project was completed by our Advanced 6th grade Social Studies classes.  Student were to explore the first tribes that setlled in America.  They had to research food, clothing, shelter, where they settled, the tribes interaction with the Europeans, and if they were the most successful tribe.  Students were provided a number of websites to find information.  They used these sites to collect information, put it into a spreadsheet and used Google Earth to express all of these ideas.  Students showed where each tribe settled by using a different color to depict location.  Students included hyperlinks for each important aspect of the tribe such as shelter, clothing, and food.  Students were all given the topics, but were required to fill in the information and place it in the correct spot.  Please enjoy this short video of one such student project. World War 1- iMovie Project

Posted by jamaddux On November - 23 - 2009

A group of 7th grade social studies students at SPMS created a movie on World War 1.  They were told that a new online museum was being created that needed a video to feature on their home page.  Their video needed to include all of the major aspects of World War 1 (according to SOL USII.5)  Here’s an example of one of the movies:
