Sources
- Google Trends – lets you see search trends in Google over time for analysis based on keyword(s) you define. The results are downloadable as a CSV file for use in Excel.
- U.S. Census Statistics – 2008 statistical abastract.
Data Inspiration
- GraphJam – pop culture and humorous charts and graphs. A nice way to introduce a new concept. There’s also a lot of material ripe for deconstruction. Some are inappropriate.
- Graphing Stories – video based lesson created to show time/elevation and time/speed graphing. It’s better than my description indicates.
- Junk Charts – if you’re looking to get bad graph and chart examples this is the place to go. They often then print a clarified version as well.
- Online Poker – this lesson takes real data from an online poker site and uses it to indicate the strong probability of cheating. It covers histograms, percentages and few more concepts.
- Swivel – online graphing/chart community that allows you to mashup or embed the graphs.
- Many Eyes – IBM data visualization tool. Use what others have made or create your own.
- Timeplot – a little more sophisticated technically than the previous examples.
