HCPS Response To Intervention

The primary purpose of universal screening is to determine which students need help.  The term applies to the process that uses short, quick and easy to administer probes that are aligned to the curriculum and measure specific skills a student has achieved.   Benchmark assessments, like PALS (in reading), are administered  to determine if the student is performing at grade level expectations at that particular time.  All interventions are provided by the general education teacher in the general education classroom, and differentiation of instruction is based on student assessment data.
