I think we should use some of the headings from the NETS-S Next Generation document. These heading seem to parallel the 21st Century Skills…
- Creativity and Innovation
- Communication and Collaboration
- Research and Information Fluency
- Critical Thinking Problem Solving and Decision Making
I also think there needs to be better horizontal alignment.
I agree with Gaynell and think we need to replicate the same language. I think the TIPC should seamlessly align with the 21st Century Framework/NETS. There are so many resources out there and I think we need to pull everything together.
I would almost like to see us re-work this to make the headings/bullets outlined in NETS become the “ideal” column and we work backwards to the entry column. This would give teachers a extensive overview of the skills and help them clearly formulate a plan for movement along the chart.
Funny that you say this – that’s what I have started to do. I will bring hard copies to the meeting.

Amen, sistas! Another thing I feel would be beneficial for our TIP chart is a brief description of each category before the progression levels. For example:
Student Centered Learning
-definition of “student centered learning”
progression descriptions
I think a lot of teachers aren’t even sure what some of our categories mean and are afraid to ask because they think they should already know.
OOH, also, I would love to make it more visual. So many words on the page. I think it would greatly benefit from some nice color coded charts using something like Omni Graffle. I think a lot of teachers take one look at the TIPchart and get overwhelmed by all of the information.
I totally agree, Mad-dux. That’s why I created the video intro videos for my staff. There is no orientation piece with the current version of the TIP-Chart. I also remixed the chart and added some tangible examples for my teachers.

I know the videos are not for general consumption, but check out the “remix” linked document towards the bottom of the page and let me know what you think.
